For the first time in eight years, the St. Thomas Aquinas softball team is headed to the FHSAA State Series. Behind a resilient lineup and outstanding starting pitcher, the Raiders have advanced to the FHSAA Final Four for the first time since 2017.
“I am just so proud of these kids,” head coach Bryan Baucom told the Sun Sentinel. “They have worked so hard. Christina [D’Agostino] and Jessica [Sacca] both know what it is like to go to states, but these other kids don’t. I know we are a good-hitting team, but we just haven’t put it together in a game yet. We showed it tonight, and if we can do that for a whole game, pitch well and get good defense…we have a chance.”
The Raiders entered postseason play at 11-12 but have hit their stride, winning five straight on the way to district and regional championships.
“At this school, there is a standard, and that is to get to state…” Baucom told the Sun Sentinel.
STA will play in the State Semifinals in Longwood, Fla. on May 22 for a chance to advance to the State Championship.
