The St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders football team had to wait 21 days to get back onto the field after their last regular season game, a 38-42 loss to American Heritage, and begin their march to a state-record sixth straight state championship.
When the team finally did get back onto the field and into the game, it looked like a team who had taken advantage of the time off. The Raiders use a well-balanced offensive attack and a stifling defense to roll past North Miami 58-0 in the Class 5A-4 Regional Quarterfinal.
The Raiders rushed for 274 yards and four touchdowns on the ground, dominating in the trenches after a relatively slow start to the first quarter. STA overcame an early red zone interception and muffed punt to build a 37-0 lead at halftime. A running clock in the second half did not stop the no. 2 seed in the bracket from adding on three more touchdowns.
STA advances to the Region Semifinal vs. Blanche Ely at 7:00 p.m. on Fri, Nov 22nd. The game will be at Brian Piccolo Stadium at Simmons Family Field.
Tickets are available at gofan.co. The game will be broadcast on the NFHS Network.
