St. Thomas Aquinas High School Dominates, Secures 4th Consecutive Girls Basketball State Title
LAKELAND — The RP Funding Center witnessed a display of sheer dominance as Fort Lauderdale’s St. Thomas Aquinas High School girls’ basketball team secured their fourth consecutive state title, leaving their opponents, Bloomingdale High School, in awe of their prowess. The final scoreline of 70-35 was a testament to the Raiders’ superior height, strength, and agility on the court.
For Bloomingdale, it was a disappointing end to an otherwise impressive season. Despite entering the Class 6A final with an undefeated record, they found themselves overwhelmed by the relentless pressure from St. Thomas Aquinas. The game quickly slipped from Bloomingdale’s grasp, with a 20-9 deficit in the first quarter and a staggering 39-14 halftime score, fueled by a series of turnovers, and three pointers. The implementation of the mercy-rule running clock, triggered when a team leads by 35 points, further highlighted the Raiders’ dominance, leaving Bloomingdale with little room for recovery.
The Raiders’ coach, Oliver Berens, attributed their success to a combination of experience and a rigorous schedule. With three consecutive state titles under their belt and a challenging national itinerary, St. Thomas Aquinas was well-prepared for the grand stage. Their familiarity with high-pressure situations enabled them to maintain composure, ultimately securing another resounding victory.
As the dust settles on another thrilling season of high school basketball, St. Thomas Aquinas’ remarkable feat stands as a testament to their talent and determination.
