For the first time in the illustrious history of St. Thomas Aquinas, both basketball teams have captured the FHSAA State Championship in the same year. The boys defeated Evans 67-51 while the girls took down Bayside 65-22 to complete a sweep of the 6A State Championships.
It’s the boys second consecutive state championship, and third overall. They finish the season 28-4, ranked third in Florida and inside the National Top 25 rankings for the second consecutive year.
The girls, after winning four consecutive titles before falling short last year, secured the fifth in school history. They finish 22-8 and dominated en route to one of the most lopsided championship games in FHSAA history.
The titles are the 138th and 139th in STA’s history. Congratulations to these teams, they will always be remembered in STA history.
