In a defensive slugfest between two of Florida’s premier programs, St. Thomas Aquinas found a way to grind out a 19–12 road victory over American Heritage on Friday night, powered by a dominant defensive performance, a perfect night from the kicking unit, and a relentless pass rush led by Wyatt Smith.
The Raiders’ defense set the tone early and never let up. The secondary came up with multiple interceptions to halt Heritage drives, while the front seven applied consistent pressure that kept the Patriots’ offense off balance all evening. Smith anchored the effort in the trenches, finishing with 3.5 sacks and several quarterback hurries that disrupted key possessions.
While the Raiders’ offense moved the ball effectively between the 20s, it was special teams that carried the scoring load. Kicker Johnny DiSalvatore was flawless on the night, going 4-for-4 on field goals and adding an extra point — accounting for 13 of STA’s 19 points. His consistency proved to be the difference in a game defined by field position and defensive stops.
Each of DiSalvatore’s kicks came in high-pressure moments, extending leads and capitalizing on turnovers generated by the Raider defense. His poise and accuracy ensured that every possession counted.
On the other side of the ball, the secondary came through with three interceptions, including key takeaways by Jaden Carey, Jemiyah Douglas, and Andre Jones. Those turnovers halted potential scoring drives by the Patriots and swung momentum back to Aquinas at critical junctures.
The Raiders’ ability to win through defense and special teams highlighted their depth and versatility — a reassuring sign as the postseason approaches.
With the win, St. Thomas Aquinas improves to 8–1, extending its winning streak to eight games. The victory marks another statement performance for a Raider team that continues to find ways to win, regardless of circumstance.
Next up, the Raiders return home looking to close out the regular season with continued momentum before shifting focus to another postseason run. They face Chaminade-Madonna on Fri., Oct 31 at 7:00 p.m.
