St. Thomas Aquinas’ Dwayne Wimbley Jr. was named the Broward County Overall Boys’ Athlete of the Year for Classes 7A-4A after leading the Raiders to their first boys’ basketball state championship since 2001. In his senior season — after transferring to Aquinas to focus solely on basketball — Wimbley Jr. averaged 16 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and 2.5 blocks per game. His leadership powered the Raiders to a state title, along with BCAA Big 8, district, and regional championships. He was also named the Miami Herald Boys’ Basketball 7A-4A Player of the Year.
In addition, several STA standouts earned finalist honors:
- Christien Moreau (Football, Track & Field) – Helped lead the Raiders’ football team to a record sixth straight state title with 41 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, nine sacks, and a defensive touchdown. In track, he was Broward’s top shot putter and discus thrower, qualifying for state.
- Grace Finneran (Cross Country, Track & Field) – Ran a county-best 18:26 at the Class 4A state cross-country meet and earned second-team track honors in the 1,600 meters.
These honors highlight the continued excellence of STA Athletics across multiple sports, showcasing both championship success and all-around athletic dominance.
