Both St. Thomas Aquinas soccer teams advanced to the Class 6A Regional Final last week, moving the teams one win away from the State Semifinal later this month.
The boys team went on the road and defeated the defending state champions, and seventh ranked team in the country, 2-1. It was a sweet victory for the Raiders as the Bulldogs defeated them in penalty kicks to claim the district championship in late January.
However, STA got the last laugh. Rayne Archuleta and Francis Owino netted the two goals for STA while the defense stood tall against a potent offensive attack from the Bulldogs.
The Raiders will play for a chance to advance to the State Series on Tue., Feb 11th at 7:00 p.m. vs Olympic Heights on the road. The Lions are the 13th ranked team in the country. The two teams faced off in late November, with the Raiders securing a 2-1 win.
The girls team continued their dominance with a 4-0 win over Dwyer. Four different Raiders found the back of the net in a balanced scoring attack. STA has a goal differential of +26 in the playoffs. They face Cooper City, who they defeated 6-1 in the district final, in the regional final on Tue., Feb 11th at 7:00 p.m. at home.
