St. Thomas Aquinas kept it rolling on Friday night, defeating McArthur 31-7 in a strong showing.
The game opened with a slow start for both sides, but the Raiders managed to get on the board first with a field goal to take a 3-0 lead. McArthur quickly answered late in the first quarter when Damarius Higgs powered into the end zone for a rushing touchdown that put the Mustangs ahead 7-3 after the extra point.
From that point forward, the Raiders controlled the night. In the second quarter, Aquinas pieced together an efficient drive capped off by a rushing score to reclaim the lead at 10-7 heading into halftime. The defense, which had given up the early touchdown, began to settle in and limit McArthur’s opportunities.
The second half belonged to the Raiders. A passing touchdown in the third quarter gave Aquinas breathing room, and another strike through the air in the fourth sealed the victory. By the final whistle, the Raiders had outscored McArthur 28-0 after the first quarter to close out a 31-7 win.
With the victory, St. Thomas Aquinas improved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in district play.
The win highlighted Aquinas’ balance on offense, showing efficiency both on the ground and through the air, while the defense tightened up after the early score and kept the Mustangs quiet the rest of the way.
The Raiders have their bye week before they return home to play Hollywood Hills on Fri., Oct 3 at 7:00 p.m.
