St. Thomas Aquinas High School proudly celebrates Athletic Director Twan Russell, who has been awarded the Chris Hixon Exemplary Sportsmanship Award by the Florida Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (FIAAA). This prestigious accolade recognizes individuals who exemplify integrity, leadership, and a deep commitment to student-athletes—qualities that define Russell’s impactful career.
The award honors the legacy of Chris Hixon, the former athletic director and coach at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, who tragically lost his life during the 2018 Parkland school shooting. Hixon was widely respected for his selflessness, mentorship, and dedication to student development—values that Russell has embodied throughout his tenure at St. Thomas Aquinas.
A former NFL linebacker and St. Thomas Aquinas alumnus, Russell returned to his alma mater to lead its athletic program with passion and purpose. Under his leadership, the Raiders have continued to thrive both on and off the field, with Russell fostering a culture of sportsmanship, academic excellence, and community engagement.
Russell’s recognition is a testament to his unwavering dedication to student-athletes and his commitment to upholding the highest standards of sportsmanship and leadership. His efforts continue to inspire both current students and alumni, reinforcing the values that make St. Thomas Aquinas a beacon of excellence in high school athletics.
Congratulations to Twan Russell on this well-deserved honor. The entire Aquinas family celebrates this achievement and looks forward to his continued impact on our community.
