The St. Thomas Aquinas girls soccer team earned some well-deserved postseason recognition by the Sun Sentinel.
Broward 7A-5A First Team: Madison McKeon, Bianca Raskin
Broward 7A-5A Second Team: Dakota Harrell, Lauren Smith
Broward 7A-5A Honorable Recognition: Brooklyn Burbridge, Miranda Dumornay, Aniya Harriott, Giuliana Kostick, Camryn McEwen, Emma Rosenstein, Claudia Timmer Rodriguez
Head Coach Brian Hantak received the Broward 7A-5A Co-Coach of the Year award. “These young ladies have become an incredibly tight family and are already talking about how they can’t wait to get back together and start working for next year,” he told the Sun Sentinel. We have a little unfinished business that we are anxious to take care of. That, to me, says it all. It was a great season. We fell a little short of our ultimate goal, but now the girls are even more motivated.”
Star player Sophie Barnes received the Broward 7A-5A Player of the Year award as just a sophomore. Barnes finished the year with 23 goals and 10 assists, leading the Raiders to the State Finals. “Our players come from all different clubs, and there are all types of talent,” Barnes said to the Sun Sentinel. “So, when you put it all together, it’s a great group with great chemistry. The losses in the past two years will be more motivating for us. The feeling of losing was devastating. We don’t want that feeling again and will work even harder.”
Congratulations to all of the Raiders!
