GIRLS BASKETBALL CHASING HISTORY
By Sports Information Student Writer: Evan Mukerjee
Two state championships in a row are good, but not good enough for this St. Thomas girl’s basketball team. The female raiders are getting ready to participate in a tournament that will place them in the playoffs. Heading into the playoffs, I got to interview a few of them and get some insight on how they are preparing for the game. Point guard Khadee Hession says, “Our head coach has been on us about showing up to practice on time and working together in practice.” The basketball team did not head off to a good start at the beginning of the season. The many losses they faced left them in a troubled situation. Coach Oliver calmed the team down by reminding them that they are “still a great team” and “the losses don’t matter.”
Guard Karina Gordon says that she is “1000% confident” in the team and that this win will show that the “players and coaches are a great team.” This team seems to face a lot of adversity because of how it started the season, but this does not seem to phase Jaelyn Cardoza. She said “Everyone can doubt us, but we will still pull through with the win.” The team finished their season strong with a 15-8 record and the coaching staff has put confidence in the team by telling them how “they trust them and they know how to play this sport.” With the playoffs coming closer, this basketball team has one goal in mind: make the comeback and win the Championship.
Edit: The lady raiders won their #3peat title in January.
